Last Wednesday was Micah’s birthday. He’s still pretty new to Shanghai and kinda shy, so I thought it would be cool to arrange a little surprise party for him. So I did. Last Tuesday night after work almost all of our teacher co-workers secretly gathered at Dongbeiren, a festive Chinese restaurant which specializes in dishes (and culture) of China’s northeast. Meanwhile I was stalling Micah by pretending to take him to a local concert at a nearby bar (which didn’t really exist). I ran him around in a big circle, pretending to have forgotten where exactly the bar was. I had a whole story for how I found the bar and why I had forgotten where it was and all that. He bought it all.

Anyway, we had all had a good meal together. I wish we could do that sort of thing more often.

On another note, I bet Micah and I looked pretty cool, surrounded by so many Chinese girls. (Click on the thumbnail for the full picture.)
