Randomness is funny
April 25, 2005
I just discovered these two gems on Metafilter:
-
Vin Diesel Fact Generator. They’re all fake, but some are pretty hilarious. This one was pretty good: “Vin Diesel led a failed attempt to rescue Terri Schiavo, he was thwarted by The Communist Youth Brigade in the halls of the hospice who know his only weakness is a fear of shiny foil balloons.”
-
The Random Times. All the news is fake, randomly generated. My favorite is the last line of the horoscopes, which tells you what’s “lucky” today. Here are some examples:
- Lucky orange thing: an orange
- Lucky chess opening gambit: Petrov’s Defence
- Lucky UNIX command: nice
- Lucky large-scale producer of brine: the Pacific Ocean
- Lucky bearded prophet: Jesus
- Lucky thing made of tin: the Bastille
- Lucky wind noise: whooooossssssssh
- Lucky colour: taupe
- Lucky starch derivative: kapok
- Lucky celebrity garment: Batman’s trousers
- Lucky maritime smell: oilskin
- Lucky root vegetable: bacon
Speaking of randomness, has anyone ever noticed the random tooltips on the link to entry comments on the Sinosplice weblog? Hmmm, I didn’t think so.
