Folk Music

August 10, 2005

I listened to John Denver when I was growing up because that was one of the records my parents frequently played. I can’t help liking a lot of his songs, even now, when China is doing its darnedest to make me sick of the song “Country Road.” I still like it.

Then I recently heard the band Crooked Fingers. It’s pretty folksy. I listened to that CD for weeks, and when I went home for my last visit, I gave Illy a copy and left one with my family. Not sure if they listen to it at all, but it’s good stuff.

The latest one is a song called “California Brown and Blue” by Denison Witmer (what a name, huh?). That song is gold. Love it. [Download it](/music/Denison Witmer - California Brown and Blue.mp3) and listen.

And before you say anything… yeah, it’s folk music. But it’s badass folk music. (And I still like punk!)
