Movies Seen Lately
September 20, 2009
Fireflies in the Garden - Willem Dafoe is a good actor, and I liked the guy that played the son as well. A slightly annoying emotional drama, but overall OK. I liked the ending.
Year One - Jack Black and Michael Cera. Had some funny parts… OK overall. Better than some of Jack Black’s other recent attempts.
District 9 - Best sci-fi movie I’ve seen in a while. Best movie period, to think of it. Good story, good action, good effects. The director knew what he was doing, and did it well. Go see this movie!
无间道 (Infernal Affairs) - This is an old movie, but I hadn’t seen it until recently. It’s the one The Departed was based on. Good movie! I can’t say it was better or worse than The Departed… I liked them both. I’ll probably watch the sequels.
The Clone Wars - It was at once a lame cartoon version of Star Wars and a typical (recent) Star Wars movie. Not entirely bad, but not very good either…
30 Days of Night - A horror zombie flick. It’s one of the “fast zombie” movies that have been coming out in recent years. I watched it for about 30 minutes and then turned it off. I find these days I can’t really stand senseless violence.
I’m Not There - Weird and partly annoying (I had to fast-forward through the Richard Gere segments), but interesting. I like Dylan, and Cate Blanchett gave a great performance.
The Brothers Solomon - A Will Arnett movie. It starts out funny, but kind of loses steam as it tries to actually wind up the plot and the silliness gets a bit out of control. It had some really funny parts, though. Very Will Arnett.
S. Darko - I really enjoyed Donnie Darko, so I approached this film with great curiosity and trepidation. It turned out to be a pretty straightforward rehash of the original. Very contrived dialogue in parts. Not a worthy sequel.
