Brad and Hank and Jenny are married

October 20, 2009

Hank and Jenny were married this past Sunday. I was one of the best men, and I got to wear my tux. (I was wondering when I’d ever wear it again…) I was pleased that it still fit fine.

I was really nervous about having to do interpretation at such an important event as my boss’s wedding, and we owed Jenny for what she did at our wedding. It went fine, though. Here’s some quotes from a recent chat I had about Hank and Jenny’s wedding:

The wedding yesterday turned out to be a lot of fun. It’s also a little bit of a weight off my shoulders… But here’s something crazy: Hank didn’t have baijiu at his wedding, but he had TEQUILA. I think that’s the most tequila shots I’ve ever done without getting sick. Good times.

Hank told me before the wedding, “We decided not to have baijiu at the wedding banquet.” And I as thinking, “YES!” And then he goes, “But I bought 4 bottles of tequila…” D’OH!!! (But it turned out good… no puking!)

I was getting all creative with the translations, too. The part where they were cutting the cake, and there was a bubble machine blowing bubbles behind them, the MC started spouting al this flowery lovey dovey crap full of chengyus, and my translation was, “Look at the pretty bubbles.”

I told Hank before the wedding, “You have my drinking, and you have me translating. At some point there’s going to be a conflict there. Which takes priority?” He told me “drinking.”

About 10 days before was Brad’s wedding. It was great meeting his family, and it was much more relaxed, since I didn’t have to do anything! He did this great performance where he played guitar and sang to his bride. Then afterward we all went to a local bar, and the two of them performed on stage. It was great.

Everyone is getting happier! Whoo-hoo!
