Crafty Sick Baby

September 13, 2013

Alana is a crafty baby.

I remember when we were first trying to train her to sleep through the night by using the “let her cry” approach, she had an ace up her sleeve. She realized that if she cried to the point where she started puking (yes, she can do that), then we would actually run in and check on her. She did that a few times… enough to be worrying! That’s potentially life-threatening. Not until we got the video baby monitor did we really feel that we could let her cry. Eventually she learned to sleep through the night. Sad eater Recently her sleep patterns have kind of gotten messed up, and she doesn’t sleep through the night anymore.

It started when some jerk one floor up started drilling every day for a week, right during Alana’s nap time. That seriously freaked out and upset her, and ruined her naps. Then her nanny and waipo (SS’s mom) started letting her take her naps on the bed instead of in her crib, because it somehow made her feel more at ease. Pretty soon she was crying every night, needing comforting and someone staying right by the crib just for her to sleep. Appeasement didn’t work. Things were getting worse.

Finally, when I convinced SS that we were sliding backwards on the sleep issue and we had to return to the “let her cry” tactic, she pulls out another trump card. On the very night we decide to reinstate “let her cry,” not only does she start puking again, she also comes down with a high fever! And then proceeds to vomit multiple times throughout the night. The next day (today), she had a high fever for most of the day, and was taking baby Tylenol to keep her fever down. Hopefully she’ll be better tomorrow.

So I feel bad for my little daughter, but also, damn, she’s a crafty baby!
