A Good Laugh
September 28, 2004
It’s now China’s Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. It’s a time to be home with family. One of the traditions for the holiday is to give “moon cakes” to friends.
As I’ve mentioned, I have an ayi cleaning for me at home. She does a great job. (She’s not always 100% thorough, though. One thing I’ve noticed is that she doesn’t get the glasses really clean.)
Song Shen seems to have a soft spot for my ayi. Ayi works hard, and she’s away from her home and family here in Shanghai. This is what Song Shen said to me today:
“Hey, I have an idea. Maybe you could give moon cakes to ayi for Moon Festival. What do you think? You could give her a box of moon cakes, and you could even leave a little note for her inside the box. You could write do a better job washing the glasses from now on.”
