Mom SKYPED me!

March 25, 2005

Shocking as it sounds, I was skyped by my own mother! I was delighted, as you might imagine.

In case you don’t know, Skype is the internet telephony software. It’s by the makers of Kazaa, and it uses a P2P network to do its telephony thing. It works surprisingly well.

Mom called me from Florida last night and we enjoyed 40 minutes of clear, echo-free conversation, and we didn’t need to use earphones. I’ve had some conversations with Illy before, but never at such a high quality. I guess it’s because the network is growing (and mom probably has a faster internet connection than Illy). Skype has even teamed up with a Chinese internet portal to help spread its free software, so Skype is catching on in China too.

Please, if you don’t have it, get Skype! It’s free. It’s great. It’s… the future! Oh yeah, and then call me. After you install the software, you can click on the little icon at left to call me without even having to search for me. (Just in case, I’m jpasden.)
