My studies are going pretty smoothly, I guess.

When writing by hand, I am having much less trouble recalling characters than I used to, so I’m not too worried about my writing exam. Being less worried about it will also help me recall characters better; I forget Chinese characters easily under pressure. My tutor was encouraging today when revising my latest essay. She assured me I would have no trouble with the writing exam.

As for the “modern Chinese” exam, I finished getting through the 600 page textbook (sort of glossing over the sections my tutors advised me would not be tested). I had to get through the sections on the classifications and usages of complex sentences in Chinese, methods of altering sentence tone in Chinese, and the importance of punctuation. The last section was the least important; it was on rhetoric/literary devices.

That means I still have four days to review, organize, digest, memorize, and practice. Hopefully Monday will be the only day I have to work this week. I’m not too worried about being prepared come Friday.
