Football and Snowballs
February 6, 2008
I was thinking on Monday about my relationship to football. It has always been a social activity for me. Growing up, I would play it with Chris and Colin and David because it was a fun thing to do, not because I loved football. We would have been just as happy to play bikeball in the circle, or go to the woods, or go swimming, or play video games. Then in high school I went to a bunch of games because my friends did, and it was a lot of fun. HHS just happened to have one of the best teams in the state those 4 years, but that wasn’t really important. And then while I was at UF, even though we had one of the top teams in the nation (we won the national championship), I only went to one game, because my friends didn’t go. The one game I went to was with my parents.
So I was happy to go to the Super Bowl with friends on Monday morning. I wouldn’t have gone alone. It turned out that because of the seating situation, it wasn’t very social at all. Fortunately, the game turned out to be a really good game, but I would have had a much better time if the seating situation had been better, regardless of how good the game was.
After the game we all went to Burger King (a treat for us), and we all had bacon cheese Whoppers. Then we played a bunch of video games, and ended the afternoon off with a snowball fight.
Man, snowball fights are fun. I have not had enough of these in my life. I remember the first one I ever had, right outside the Cleveland airport, scraping a light dusting of dirty airport snow together to have a mini snowball fight with Grace. I also had a great one with my friend Junya in Tokyo. Tokyo had record snowfalls that year. Then the one on Monday was the third one I ever remember having.
I’d like to have a snowball fight with SS. That would be fun. :)
