New PT Job
December 29, 2005
With the departure of a major tutoring client (previously my main source of income), I have had to look into other possibilities. I received a translation-type job offer, and I accepted it.
So now, twice a week, I am e-mailed a 4-page collection of short news stories in Chinese. I must translate them into 100-150 word English news stories and return them in a timely fashion.
To tell you the truth, I’m not crazy about any translation job, but I decided I want this one because:
- It solves my money problem at a critical time
- It gives me great practical reading practice in Chinese, which I really do need
- Since it’s not word-for-word translation, it’s way less annoying
- The workload is very reasonable
So that’s that. I’m still doing occasional work for Melody, but we just finished the huge year-long project of creating the new lines of books, so I expect less work with Melody. I’m down to one tutoring client, but I’m enjoying that.
