Lifestream
August 5, 2008
This blog is sort of a lifestream, but I recently set up something even lifestreamier: JohnPasden.com.
If you’re friend or family, feel no pressure to visit it regularly. It’s something I set up very quickly which required very little work on my part and no ongoing maintenance.
You might want to visit it to:
- see what new posts I’ve written lately on either this blog or Sinosplice
- see what I’ve been writing lately on Twitter (short, random stuff)
- see what photos I’ve posted to Flickr lately
- see what I’ve been linking to on Delicious
- see what music I’ve been listening to
If you’re curious about the tech side, this is all I did to set it up:
- Install a new WordPress blog through DreamHost one-click installs.
- Add the SimpleLife WP plugin.
- (Replace the SimplePie.inc file included in the plugin with a newer one to eliminate a plugin activation error)
- Pick a simple theme from one of the dozens DreamHost installs come with.
- Do a quick edit of the WordPress
index.phpto replace the normal blog functions with the SimpleLife function. - Configure the SimpleLife plugin through the WordPress admin (this step probably took the longest).
Done! Let me know if you ever use this. I’m expecting this plugin to get a lot better as lifestreaming becomes more popular. I’ll just wait for that to happen, rather than customizing it myself.
