Alana's Misheard Lyrics

August 4, 2015

Alana’s on another Frozen kick lately. Besides Let It Go, she’s also really into For the First Time in Forever. When she “sings” the songs, there are only a few lines she even has a loose grasp on, and pretty much any unfamiliar vocabulary gets thrown out. So she’s not actually “mishearing” the lyrics; she’s reconstructing them with words she knows. Untitled So for “Let It Go,” instead of:

Let it go, let it go… can’t hold it back anymore

She sings:

Let it go, let it go… and I don’t like you anymore

And then for “The First Time in Forever,” instead of:

For the first time in forever…

She sings:

In the first time in the ever…

So cute! I’m trying to teach her these words and expressions. I imagine she won’t start singing the songs right until she can actually understand most of the lyrics.

And yet, inexplicably, she has learned “Ari no mama de,” which is part of the Japanese version of Let It Go.
